Lina Meruane

is a Chilean writer, essayist and cultural journalist. She has authored a collection of short stories, Las Infantas (1998), and contributed short fiction to many international publications. Her novels include Póstuma (2000, translated into Portuguese, 2001), Cercada (2000) and Fruta Podrida (2007) which was awarded First Prize for the Best Unpublished Novel of 2006 by the Chilean National Council for the Arts and Culture. She has been awarded grants by the Fondo de Desarrollo de las Artes (1997), the Guggenheim Foundation (2004) and the National Endowmwnt for the Arts (2010). Her work has been translated into English, French, Portuguese, German and Hungarian. She has been teaching in the Creative Writing in Spanish MFA since 2008 and currently teaches literature at the Liberal Studes Program at NYU.
